CHICO — With the long-term goal of improving downtown travel for bicycles and pedestrians, the City of Chico will be conducting outreach at upcoming Farmers Market events throughout January.

According to a press release issued Friday by the city, the proposed project is meant to “close gaps” in downtown bikeways and eventually widen sidewalks and reduce driving lane size.

“The project spans Main and Broadway corridors from 1st Street to Humboldt Road, 3rd Street between Salem Street and Orient Street, and 4th Street between Salem Street and Cypress Street,” the release reads. “The City has proposed two alternative street configurations, each offering distinct layout options, as well as other design feature considerations.”

To provide information and get public opinion, Chico staff will set up at the Chico Municipal Parking lot from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 6 and 20 as well as the North Valley Plaza Mall from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 10 and 31.

Additionally, a public meeting will be held at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 for further discussion with a second meeting to be held on the week of Jan. 22 which will contain updates to the project.
