Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) boys Athlete of the Week poll.

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.

This week, we consider performances from the first week of January.

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at [email protected].

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.

We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.

On to the nominees:

Jorell Clark, Palo Alto basketball: The 6-foot-1 junior and son of Stanford head track and field coach J.J. Clark scored 26 points to lead Palo Alto to a 61-49 victory on the road over Los Altos in Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division play. The Vikings improved to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.

William Evans, De La Salle soccer: The junior’s goal was all the offense the Spartans needed to turn back visiting James Logan 1-0 in a nonleague game. De La Salle improved to 4-2-1.

Ricardo Feliciano, Dougherty Valley soccer: The junior had two goals and an assist to help lead the Wildcats to a 5-0 victory over Freedom in nonleague play. He began this week with five goals on the season.

David Hernandez Escobar, St. Francis soccer: Scored one of St. Francis’ two goals in its 2-1 victory over Valley Christian in West Catholic Athletic League play. Also had a goal and an assist in a 4-1 league victory over Sacred Heart Cathedral earlier in the week. The senior ended the week with 10 goals and three assists this season.

Andrew Hilman, Archbishop Riordan basketball: The sophomore guard scored 11 of his 28 points in the fourth quarter and overtime as the Crusaders edged Bishop Gorman-Las Vegas 82-81 in the Coastal Catholic Classic at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Riordan improved to 7-3.

Rarified air: Legendary Mitty girls basketball coach wins 800th game

Luke Isaak, San Ramon Valley basketball: Scored 12 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as San Ramon Valley defeated visiting Berkeley 62-47. During the holidays, the junior guard received MVP honors after leading the Wolves to a second consecutive Gold Division title at the prestigious Damien Classic in Southern California.

Dylan Mansour, Campolindo basketball: The senior led the way with 27 points as the Cougars improved to 13-3 with a 58-56 victory over Capital Christian-Sacramento in a showcase at the Sacramento school. Also had 12 points in a 62-58 victory at St. Mary’s-Stockton earlier in the week.

Jayden Minor, Mountain View basketball: The 6-5 junior guard led the way with 22 points as Mountain View improved to 1-1 in SCVAL De Anza Division play with a 73-62 victory over Wilcox. The Spartans improved to 10-4 overall.

Paul Pham, Bellarmine wrestling: The junior was named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Bianchini Memorial Tournament after recording four pins on the day. Bellarmine won the team title.

Marcus Robinson, Miramonte basketball: The 6-3 senior guard made seven 3-pointers and finished with 32 points, three assists and three steals to lead Miramonte past host San Rafael 61-40 in a nonleague game. The Matadors upped their record to 11-3.
