Prep roundup: Granada, San Ramon Valley boys continue to sizzle at MLK showcase

MLK-John Lewis Memorial showcase

Two of the Bay Area’s hottest boys basketball teams were in action at Miramonte’s Martin Luther King-John Lewis Memorial showcase.

Neither disappointed.

Granada stretched its winning streak to 15 with a 68-55 victory over Menlo-Atherton in the second of six games on Saturday at Miramonte High. San Ramon Valley closed out the event with its 12th win in a row, rolling past Inderkum-Sacramento 78-57.

The East Bay Athletic League contenders had no letdown after winning league games the previous night.

San Ramon Valley built a 42-28 halftime cushion, extended the margin to 60-44 after three quarters and cruised down the stretch.

Luke Isaak led SRV with 27 points. The Wolves also got 17 points from Mason Thomas, 15 points from Matthew Diekmann and 10 assists from Seamus Deely as they improved to 16-3.

Inderkum fell to 11-6.

Granada (16-1) had three players score in double figures in its win: Spencer Langowski (16 points), NaVaughn Long (15 points) and Cortevious Taylor (11 points).

Last season’s NorCal Division I champs led M-A 34-29 at halftime and 51-40 after three quarters.

John Anderson scored 20 points and Jacob Sutton chipped in with 11 for M-A, which fell to 12-2.

Other games at Miramonte:

Monte Vista 67, Marin Catholic 61

Daniel Cojocaru poured in 31 points to lead Monte Vista past Marin Catholic as the Mustangs snapped a two-game skid.

Monte Vista also got 15 points from Max Nishikawa and 11 from Collin Ellis as it improved to 16-3.

Marin Catholic is 8-12.

Northgate 63, California 42

Northgate opened the Miramonte event with an impressive victory. The Broncos surged to a 35-21 halftime lead and a 53-29 advantage through three quarters while improving to 11-6.

California is 10-8.

Jake Andjus scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half for Northgate. Daniel Louie added 11 points.

For California, Sibesh Sankar (12 points) and Brayde Kuykendall (11 points) finished in double figures.

Sacred Heart Prep 58, Lincoln-San Francisco 39

JP Kerrigan had 20 points and TJ O’Brien added 18 to power Sacred Heart Prep to a victory over Lincoln. The Gators led 29-17 at halftime and never looked back as they upped their record to 10-4.

Lincoln is 8-10.

Archie Williams 67, Miramonte 63 (2 OT)

The home team at this event suffered a tough defeat as Archie Williams outlasted Miramonte in a thriller behind 16 points from Brian Wright and 13 from Owen Bugas.

Marcus Robinson had 29 points for Miramonte (13-4).

Archie Williams is 9-8.

Elsewhere:

Palo Alto 62, Gunn 57

Jorell Clark finished with 18 points to lead Palo Alto to a victory on the road over crosstown rival Gunn in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division game.

The Vikings also got nine points from Riley Yuen and eight from Alaap Nair as they improved to 12-4, 3-1.

Gunn is 9-5, 1-2.

Girls basketball

Bishop O’Dowd 64, Salesian 50

Bishop O’Dowd, playing at its MLK showcase, pulled away down the stretch to defeat Salesian as four players scored in double figures for the Dragons.

Ella Bibbins and Devin Cosgriff each finished with 14 points, Jayla Stokes added 13 points and Madison Gordon had 12 points to lead O’Dowd, which improved to 9-4.

Madalyn Kanazawa (20 points), Ayla Rege (11 points) and Jamia Sawyer (11 points) scored in double figures for Salesian, which dropped to 7-8.

The MLK event at O’Dowd continues Monday.

The host Dragons will play national No. 1 Archbishop Mitty in the third of seven games on the day. Tip-off for the O’Dowd-Mitty game is scheduled for noon.

Salesian will play Priory in the fifth game of the day.
