Sunnyvale names new vice mayor

New vice mayor

The Sunnyvale City Council on Jan. 9 selected Councilmember Murali Srinivasan to serve as vice mayor. The vice mayor serves a one-year term and is selected by the city council each January. Councilmember Omar Din is the outgoing vice mayor.

Interim city attorney

Rebecca Moon has been appointed Sunnyvale’s interim city attorney, effective Jan. 20. Moon is currently a senior assistant city attorney. She has worked for the city on Sunnyvale for more than 22 years. Moon takes over from John Nagel, who is retiring Jan. 19. The city council will oversee a national recruitment effort for a permanent city attorney.

Before joining city staff, Moon worked at a civil litigation law firm in San Jose for seven years. There, she gained experience in tort litigation, including defending lawsuits against public entities. She joined Sunnyvale’s city attorney’s office in May 2001. Since then, Moon has provided legal services to every city department on a broad range of issues. She has particular experience in state housing and environmental laws. She’s also versed in government transparency and in conflict of interest and employment laws.

Valley Water chair named

The Valley Water Board of Directors on Jan. 9 elected District 5 representative Nai Hsueh board chair for 2024. Richard Santos, representing District 3, was elected vice chair.

Hsueh previously served as board chair in 2013 and 2020. A registered civil engineer in California, Hsueh worked at Valley Water for three decades. She was first elected to the Valley Water board in November 2012 to represent District 5, which includes the cities of Cupertino and Saratoga, areas of Sunnyvale and southwest San Jose. She was re-elected in 2016 and 2020.

Santos’ District 3 includes Sunnyvale.
