The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 as the victim walked across Highway 101 on the 3rd Avenue overpass, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Police said the suspect sexually assaulted the victim after he approached her and tried to strike up a conversation.

Officers searched the area for the suspect, who was last seen running westbound on 3rd Avenue, but they did not find him.

The victim described the suspect as about 25 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall and 140 to 150 pounds. In addition, he had a light complexion, short dark curly hair, dark brown eyes, a thin dark mustache, and freckles around his nose and under his eyes.

The suspect was last seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.

He spoke to the victim in English and said his name was Eric, according to police.
