Pinewood 70, Salesian 39
What would Pinewood guard Alex Facelo, who hit 12 3-pointers on Friday against Crystal Springs Uplands, do in her Saturday encore against Salesian?
Only make a game-high six triples and score 20 points as Pinewood rolled the Pride in the second half of a non-league game.
“I feel like we’re all hitting our stride,” Facelo said.
Katherine Garr led the team in scoring with 23 points, hitting three 3-pointers and also dicing up the visitors on drives and cuts to the basket. Pinewood, now 16-4, has won six in a row and looks primed to make yet another deep run in the Central Coast Section and NorCal playoffs.
“I believe in my girls, and I know we’re going to need more continued effort (to improve),” coach Doc Scheppler said. “But I liked the way we played today.”
Salesian kept it close for a half, trailing only 31-22 at the break. Ayla Rege led the Pride with 12 points, and Janiya Sawyer had seven points and eight rebounds.
San Ramon Valley 60, St. Joseph-Santa Maria 35
With the weekend free following the end of the East Bay Athletic League’s regular season, SRV made the trip to Caruthers and smacked St. Joseph-Santa Maria, a team that is 7-0 in its league.
Sierra Chambers scored 16 points, and Amanda Kerner had 13. Tera Chen scored 10 points while playing tenacious defense, and Avery Knapp scored 11.
SRV finishes the regular season 25-1.
St. Mary’s-Stockton 61, Oakland Tech 52
The rematch of last season’s NorCal Division I final wasn’t quite as dramatic as that game, but the showdown of NorCal powers still entertained.
Texas commit and McDonald’s All-American Jordan Lee poured in a game-high 29 points, the majority coming on pull-up midrange jumpers. Freshman guard Kori Rogers looked like a future MAA when she put in 19 points.
Jhai Johnson and Taliyah Logwood led Tech with 15 points apiece, and Terri’A Russell and Jordan Taylor scored 11 points and 10 points respectively.
Oakland Tech dropped to 7-16.
