Person fatally shot in Richmond

RICHMOND — A person was shot to death Tuesday night in a residential area, authorities said.

Police have not yet said if the victim was a man or woman or provided an age or residence for them.

Officers responding to a gunshot detection system alert found the person about 10:56 p.m. Tuesday in the 2300 block of Lancaster Drive. The person was pronounced dead at the scene from at least one gunshot, authorities said.

A possible motive has not been released. No arrests have been made.

The killing is the second homicide investigated by Richmond police this year. Last year Richmond police investigated eight homicides in the city.
