OROVILLE — The California Department of Water Resources opened the Oroville Dam’s main spillway on Jan. 31 in preparation of the storm season this year.

As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, the department is releasing 7,000 cubic feet per second from the lake, of which 3,500 cfs is being released from the main spillway.

DWR spokesperson Raquel Borrayo said the department did a test run from the spillway and released a small amount of water on Jan. 24.

Water releases are expected to halt at 10 a.m. today from the main spillway, though Borrayo said other water releases will continue through the Hyatt Power Plant.

“DWR is reducing Feather River releases due to low runoff inflow rates into Lake Oroville,” Borrayo said. “However, total Feather River releases may increase again in the future to account for additional incoming storms and high inflows.”
