Four juveniles arrested in Fremont robbery of postal worker

FREMONT — Four Fremont juveniles ranging in age from 13 to 15, who were using a stolen Jeep Cherokee, have been arrested in the robbery and attempted robbery of U.S. postal workers earlier this week, police said Friday.

Authorities did not identify the juveniles by gender.

In a news release, police said about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday the four suspects stole the mail truck keys from a postal worker in the area of 3rd Street before fleeing in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

A similar robbery attempt happened Tuesday in the area of Martha Avenue, where two of the suspects unsuccessfully tried to get a mail key from a postal worker before fleeing in the Jeep, police said.

Neither victim was injured and the Jeep was captured on the community camera network leaving both scenes, police said.

About one hour after Wednesday’s robbery, members of the Fremont Crime Reduction Unit located the Jeep Grand Cherokee driving in the area of Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard.

A traffic enforcement stop was attempted after additional Fremont officers arrivedl, but the suspect vehicle immediately drove off, and a vehicle pursuit was initiated, police said.

After approximately two miles, the suspect vehicle came to a stop and all four occupants were taken into custody without incident or injury.

Police have not said where and when the Jeep was stolen.

The driver of the Jeep, a 15-year-old, was arrested for suspicion of robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading a police officer and evading a peace officer in willful disregard for the safety of others.

A 13-year-old suspect was arrested for robbery and attempted robbery and two felony warrants out of San Francisco accusing him of attempted robbery, burglary, use of tear gas, and grand theft, police said.

A 14-year-old and another 15-year-old were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

They were all booked at Juvenile Hall, but it was not known Friday if they were still in custody.
