CRESTA — A rockslide on Highway 70 toward Plumas County is cleared, making way for a scheduled opening to one-way traffic 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a notice from Caltans District 3.
Traffic control will occur through a short stretch of highway that has been cleared of rocks and its mountainside stabilized, according to the notice.
Caltrans said several slides dropped in its project area known for high flooding and rockslides during big rain events. The roadway has been undergoing construction since February 2023 for flood improvements, and is slated for completion in 2025, according to Caltrans.
Components to the project include raising elevation of the roadway by five feet, installing soldier pile retaining walls and installing concrete barriers.
