Nine shots were fired around 8:40 p.m. at Sproul Plaza, university spokesperson Dan Mogulof said.

No one was injured, but at least one window was hit by the gunfire, Mogulof said.

“Somebody is in custody apparently who fired nine rounds on campus,” Mogulof said in an interview. “A search was done. There is no second shooter or second suspect.”

People in nearby buildings were told to remain in place, Mogulof said. They included Zellerbach Hall, where opera singer Renée Fleming was performing Friday night.

The university issued an all-clear just before 10 p.m., Mogulof said.

Additional details about the shooting were not immediately available Friday night.
