OAKLAND — Police here have identified a Bay Area man who was shot and killed in a Jan. 13 shooting and car collision.

Derrick Scott, 29, was shot multiple times around 3 p.m. on Jan. 13. Police say he was driving on the 9400 block of A Street in East Oakland when two gunmen in another car pulled over and opened fire at him.

Scott crashed into another vehicle while attempting to avoid the shots. He was transported to a hospital and declared dead from multiple gunshot wounds later that day.

Police have not announced any arrests, nor said if they’ve pinpointed the motive for the shooting. A parked car was also struck by gunfire but no one else was hit.

Scott was an Oakland resident and lived near where he was killed, authorities said. He was Oakland’s sixth homicide victim of 2024.
