Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week: Vinny Smith, Terra Nova basketball

Terra Nova basketball player Vinny Smith is the Bay Area News Group’s boys athlete of the week for Feb. 5-10.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Walker had 40.12% to finish ahead of Monte Vista soccer player James Downes, who was second at 33.05%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

The 6-5 senior scored 19 points as the Tigers turned back Peninsula Athletic League Ocean Division champion Woodside 41-39 to close out league play. Terra Nova finished the regular season 15-9 overall and 7-3 in the Ocean, one game behind Woodside.

Smith averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks per game in the regular season.
