Wish You Were Here: Touring ancient Roman ruins in Tunisia

Our adventuresome readers have been circling the globe on some pretty wonderful adventures. Just in the last year, they’ve zip-lined in Costa Rica jungles, explored maritime history in England and visited snowy Yellowstone for an entirely different perspective on the national park. And when they returned, they shared their tales and travel tips.

TUNISIA: South San Francisco resident Ramses De Guzman traveled to Tunisia in Northern Africa early in January. “About 1.5 hours from the capital of Tunis is the site of Roman ruins, Dougga,” he says, describing a UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back millennia. “Tunisia is not typically recognized as a place for Roman ruins, but it has many sites. This (photo) was at the Temple of Saturn site.”

TRAVEL TIPS: Despite the current war-torn issues of the world, “I have experienced the Tunisian people to be very welcoming despite my being an American. Many of the people were very enthusiastic to share their culture, especially with food. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with Tunisia and would visit again.”
