The highway closure, between Sanborn Road and Redwood Gulch Road, went into effect Monday and will remain until the debris can be cleared. There is no estimated time of reopening.
Rain expected later this week could hamper efforts to stabilize the hillside, Caltrans said.
Several miles to the south, a shifting hillside has made Mountain Charlie Road impassable to vehicles, forcing residents to hike the last stretch to their homes.
