Blossom Fest rescheduled
City officials have rescheduled Saratoga’s annual Blossom Festival for June 8 after the original April 13 event date was rained out.
The free event, which is produced by the Saratoga Historical Foundation and sponsored by the city of Saratoga, will feature an antique car display, gourmet food trucks and live music. It’s set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heritage Orchard and Saratoga Civic Center.
Community services in Saratoga
Saratoga residents made up 12% of the client base using rental and food assistance programs provided by West Valley Community Services (WVCS) in fiscal year 2022-23. Based in Cupertino, the nonprofit also serves residents living below the poverty line in Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and West San Jose.
According to the WVCS annual report, Saratoga-based clients were 64% single adults, 15% households with children and 21% households with adults only.
According to the report, WVCS distributed almost $1.5 million in emergency rental and utility assistance in 2022-23. Fiscal year 2019-20 marked the first year the nonprofit distributed more than $1 million in emergency assistance.
Of the households receiving assistance, 6 were in Saratoga. Overall, the nonprofit’s client base increased by 6%. WVCS’s revenues for that fiscal year were a little more than $8.1 million; expenses were almost $7.6 million.
Yearbook deemed excellent
Saratoga High School’s yearbook was inducted into the Walsworth Gallery of Excellence for demonstrating quality in 2024 based on categories like its design, coverage, photography and theme. The yearbook will be showcased across the country to demonstrate the company’s standards of excellence for yearbook design.
“The students have worked so hard this year to improve their design quality and maintain their theme motifs throughout the yearbook,” Megan Laws, the school’s yearbook teacher, said in a release. “I am so impressed with the quality of their work and their representation of our small school community.”
