CHICO — A woman was charged with felony DUI Wednesday after being arrested over the weekend following an accident that injured a former Chico mayor.

Lexy Anne Cosper, 29, is accused of driving with an illegal blood alcohol content as well as striking former Mayor Randall Stone who was allegedly crossing the road.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said in a news release Wednesday that Stone was riding his electric unicycle on a crosswalk near Warner and Ivy streets when he was hit by a vehicle. The release said Cosper was allegedly driving a sedan and ran a stop sign while Stone was crossing. Stone was reportedly with his 6-year-old son at the time.

“Stone was flipped through the air, landing on his face and hands,” Ramsey said in his release. “He sustained serious facial injuries as a result of the collision.  His son was uninjured. Cosper stopped her vehicle shortly after the collision and was found in the area by responding police.”

The charge was modified to driving under the influence and causing great bodily injury.

It was reported earlier this week based on a Facebook post by Stone that he was airlifted to UC Davis for treatment.

Cosper’s bail was set at $125,000. Ramsey said Cosper is scheduled to be back in court on May 8 with her attorney for additional arraignment.

According to the release, Cosper could be looking at up to six years in jail if convicted.
