SAN JOSE — Police announced an arrest in connection with a bizarre episode last month in which a man is recorded shattering an ice cream store window with a single punch, scattering glass all over a child who was sitting inside.
The April 26 incident at the Baskin-Robbins on Aborn Road spurred an assault investigation by the San Jose Police Department and the arrest of a 36-year-old man. But the child, as well as the parent or guardian who quickly grabbed and carried the child away, have not been located by police.
Security video released by police shows the sequence unfold around 5:30 p.m., beginning with a child entering the store and sitting on a padded bench, with his back against the large store windows facing Aborn Road.

Seconds later, the suspect runs up from behind a tree and punches through the window, raining shattered glass on the child. The assailant then appears to point or gesture at the child and guardian, who swiftly takes the child away to safety toward the front of the store.
Police said in a Tuesday news release that the store reported the incident May 2. Because the victims have not been located, it is unclear what, if any, injuries the child suffered.
There appears to be no connection between them and the suspect, who police say was arrested May 15 in San Jose and booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse crimes. The district attorney filed felony charges against him Monday.
