Shootout in Oakland leaves one dead, one wounded and arrested

OAKLAND — A shootout in East Oakland Tuesday night left one man dead and another man wounded and under arrest, authorities said.

Police have not yet released the names of the 25-year-old man killed or the 25-year-old man later arrested.

Both are Oakland residents, but police have not yet said if they knew each other.

The shootout happened just after 7 p.m. Tuesday in a parking lot in the  10500 block of Foothill Boulevard.

What prompted the exchange of gunfire between the men is under investigation.

Man fatally shot driving in East Oakland

One of the 25-year-old men was transported by ambulance from the scene to a hospital where he later died, authorities said.

The other 25-year-old man got his own transportation to a hospital a short time later and was in stable condition.  Police said their investigation determined he was part of the shootout and he was placed under arrest.

The death is the 34th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time there had been 42 homicides in the city.
