Hay harvest has arrived, as evidenced by assorted arrangements of bales on fields around Butte County. On one such property along Dayton Road in southwest Chico, bales sat in a checkerboard-like pattern until Thursday, when a hay wagon operator moved up rows and, bale by bale, collected the crop. By contrast, at Nord and West Lindo avenues, a field set for development into an apartment complex held bales in a rectangular stack wider than tall.
