1 p.m. UPDATE: Thompson Fire burns more than 75 acres, forces evacuations

OROVILLE — The Thompson Fire has grown to between 75-100 acres Tuesday near the Diversion Pool in Oroville.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office has ordered evacuations by 1 p.m. in zones 534, 535, 536, 953, 954 and 731 in Oroville and Cherokee, according to BCSO’s social media.

Evacuation warnings were in place for zones 950-952 and zones 955 through 968 around 1 p.m.

The blaze began around 10:51 a.m. Tuesday near Cherokee Road and Thompson Flat Road, said Cal Fire-Butte County Capt. Dan Collins.

Firefighters are currently fighting the fire and aircraft are present.

Collins asked the public to stay out of the area for the time being.

The Oroville Church of the Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Ave. in Oroville has been opened as an evacuation shelter by Butte County.
