OROVILLE — A strange calm fell over the area between Table Mountain and Oroville Tuesday morning.

After nearly a week-long battle, firefighters were able to finally seize control over the Thompson Fire that blazed through foliage as well as homes west of Lake Oroville as well as up the side of Table Mountain, burning the brush around the local landmark, the white O along the cliffside that overlooks the city.

Containment of the fire reached 100% Monday evening.

Driving through the area, the silence was occasionally broken by a road crew, usually Cal Fire, PG&E or AT&T, doing work on lines or cleaning up dead trees and pink fire retardant.

The blaze spread over a total of 3,789 acres and destroyed 26 structures while threatening another 450.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
