OROVILLE — The old train depot was packed with more than 1,380 people Thursday to see the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 as part of a 19-part whistle stop train tour, according to Oroville Mayor David Pittman.

In the midday heat, train enthusiasts and locals alike heard Big Boy blow its steam as the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, witnessing its purely mechanical power.
