CHICO — The fresh produce stand at Chico State’s University Farm did brisk business Friday morning, drawing customers from Butte County and beyond.
Casey and Roberta Hemping drove in from Corning to pick, well, corn. The stand had two full bins of sweet corn ears along with one nearly emptied. The Hempings “came for the corn,” Casey said, though he also had new glasses waiting for him at Costco.
A rotating sign drew Hegan Lane drivers to the stand at the farm’s main entrance on Hegan and Nicholas C. Shouten Lane. Summer sales began Wednesday, and the student-run stand is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.
