Check fraud: A Saratoga resident reported that someone intercepted a bank check from the mail, then altered and cashed the check for a loss of about $2,087.
DUI, reckless evading, hit and run collisions, unlicensed driver, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia: At 9:28 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a motorist at Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and Sea Gull Way for equipment and traffic violations, but the driver did not yield and recklessly evaded, causing two vehicle collisions. The suspect’s vehicle was eventually disabled, and an investigation revealed the motorist was driving under the influence of drugs with a suspended license, while the passenger was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in violation of their probation terms. Both suspects were arrested.
June 25
Misuse of registration tab: At 10:51 p.m., deputies patrolling the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road contacted the owner of a suspicious vehicle. An investigation revealed the vehicle’s registration was expired and the rear plate was displaying a fraudulent registration tab. The suspect was cited and released.
June 28
Check fraud: A Saratoga resident reported that someone obtained checks deposited into outgoing mail at a US Post Office and then altered and cashed the checks for a loss of about $2,679.
Recovered stolen vehicle: At 9:59 a.m., deputies recovered a vehicle, previously stolen from Sunnyvale, in the 12000 block of Ted Avenue.
Attempted residential burglary: At 8:55 p.m., someone attempted to enter a residence in the 19000 block of Bonnet Way by prying open a rear sliding glass door, but fled the scene without gaining entry upon activation of an audible alarm.
June 29
Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to access their digital payment account and conducted fraudulent transactions totaling approximately $8,764.
Possession of stolen license plates, unlicensed driver: At 7:57 p.m., deputies responded to an automated license plate reader notification for a vehicle with stolen license plates on Saratoga Avenue at Highway 85. An investigation revealed the plates were stolen from a vehicle in East Palo Alto and were still outstanding. The vehicle was located and stopped a short time later, and further investigation revealed the suspect was unlicensed. The suspect was cited and released.
July 1
Residential burglary: Between 1 p.m. on June 28 and 5 p.m. on July 1, someone entered a residence in the 20000 block of Canyon View Drive through the garage door by disabling a lock and stole a shotgun for a loss valued at approximately $200.
Theft by false pretenses: A Saratoga resident reported that someone created a fake digital marketplace account where tickets to a major sports event were posted for sale. The victim sent $700 to the suspect but never received the tickets.
Assault likely to produce great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon: At 6:04 p.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at Wingstop in the Westgate Corner shopping center on Prospect Road. An investigation revealed the suspect choked the victim multiple times, causing injury, then left the restaurant, got into a vehicle and attempted to hit another victim with the car. The suspect was arrested.

Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to obtain cellular phone service for an unknown financial loss.

Auto theft: Between 11:30 p.m. on July 3 and 12:30 p.m. on July 4, someone stole a vehicle from the driveway of a residence in the 12000 block of Brandywine Drive.
Identity theft: A Saratoga resident reported that someone used their personal information to apply for a credit card account. The application was cancelled, and no financial loss was incurred.
Organized retail theft, false ID to a peace officer, resisting arrest: At 3:29 p.m., deputies responded to a theft call at Mountain Mike’s Pizza in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. An investigation revealed two suspects entered the restaurant and stole approximately $50 from a tip jar. Further investigation revealed a total of five suspects, including the two who stole from the pizza restaurant, also worked together to steal merchandise valued at approximately $1,262 from Safeway. One suspect was detained in the shopping center, one was located walking down Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road, and three suspects were located in a getaway van found parked at Saratoga and Herriman avenues. Inside the van, deputies located stolen merchandise and property containing personal identifying information not belonging to the suspects, also believed to be stolen. Three suspects had outstanding warrants, two provided false identifying information to deputies, and one lied about a medical emergency to delay arrest. All five suspects, however, were ultimately arrested.
