Railbridge Fire reaches 85% containment

OROVILLE — The 130-acre blaze that burned through wildland near Palermo on Thursday hit 85% containment as of Saturday afternoon.

One firefighter injury was reported as a result of the Railbridge Fire, and no structures were destroyed.

The latest numbers reported by Cal Fire-Butte County say there were 27 people fighting the fire at 9 a.m. Saturday with three engine companies and one fire crew.

According to the update, hand crews have been working toward total containment and dozer-made fire lines were patrolled and hotspots were put out. Mop up was expected to continue through Saturday.

At the height of the incident, 145 people were assigned to the fire. Zones near Railbridge Road and Crestmont Court were evacuated, though the evacuees have since been able to return home and the orders have been lifted.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A second fire was reported near Forbestown Road at Black Bart on Friday as crews continued to work on the Railbridge Fire, but the Forbestown fire was quickly stopped at just north of an acre.
