OAKLAND — An Alameda County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle was stolen from outside a downtown superior courthouse and found abandoned about two miles away, although several items of police gear, including a badge, are still missing, authorities recently revealed.

The June 24 vehicle theft remains under investigation. Authorities say at least one person made off with an unmarked patrol car on that morning, as it was parked outside the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse.

The vehicle, which was equipped with a GPS tracker, was later located near Jack London Square. Police say the thief briefly stopped at an undisclosed location where he and unloaded numerous items into a waiting car, including riot gear, a medkit, and the badge. Police say no firearms were stolen.

No arrests have been announced.
