Authorities don’t believe there was any foul play in Richard Simmons’ sudden death last weekend, one day after celebrating his birthday.

A law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation told People: “The LAPD are not pursuing the investigation as if foul play was involved at this point.”

TMZ previously reported that the reclusive Simmons was pronounced dead last Saturday at his home in the Hollywood Hills, after a housekeeper found him unresponsive. Simmons had fallen in his bathroom the night prior, though it’s unclear if the fall was connected to his death. He was 76.

This isn’t the first time authorities have said they don’t suspect foul play. One day after the Medical Examiner’s Office in Los Angeles deferred Simmons’ cause of death Monday, officials confirmed his cause of death was under investigation.

A determination on one’s cause of death can take up to three months.

Simmons on Friday thanked well wishers for celebrating his birthday that day on social media.

“So many of you have sent me birthday wishes on my Facebook and other platforms,” he wrote. “I really appreciate that. I don’t know when your birthday is but I wish you a happy and healthy birthday!”

Back in March, Simmons had to walk back a post in which he suggested he was “dying,” which he followed by announcing his skin cancer diagnosis.
