Rental Guys building new facility in Paradise

PARADISE – Alex DuBose, owner of Rental Guys, is investing in the future of the Paradise by building a new facility for his business on the Skyway.

The family-owned company, which boasts 12 California and two Nevada locations, specializes in equipment rentals and sales of everything from aerial work platforms to wheel loaders and small-batch concrete.

The company’s motto is “providing solutions to build better communities” and “this project is an example of that,” said DuBose.

DuBose bought the building and opened Rental Guys Paradise location in 2016. While it was one of the few business not burned in the 2018 Camp Fire, DuBose described the facility as an “80-year-old dilapidated building” and said, “It’s not a good representation of the company.”

“There’s going to be a new and improved Paradise, a new town, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re doing what we’re doing,” DuBose said. “You see a lot of new construction of houses and churches but not many businesses. We want to be one of the first businesses to invest in the community to show people we’re here to stay and be a forever partner.”

The old building is being completely taken down to  make room for the  new 8,500-square-foot building which DuBose anticipates will be complete and open for business in October

Although it’s a challenge to remain operational during construction and there is some inconvenience to customers in terms of parking, Rental Guys will remain open for the duration of the building process.

“Everyone is patient because they know what’s coming and how much better it will be in the long run and they’re excited,” said DuBose. “And the town of Paradise has been accommodating and helpful. They’ve been good to work with.”

The rebuild of the Paradise location isn’t the only construction project on DuBose’s plate. He’s also in the process of building a new Rental Guys in Yuba City where he purchased a piece of property with three buildings on Live Oak Boulevard. The buildings have “significant deferred maintenance so we’re doing all the work necessary to bring them up to acceptable levels so they represent our business appropriately,” said DuBose.

The primary building at the new location will house Rental Guys and the two other buildings will be home to Bobcat of Yuba City, another DuBose-owned company.

“We expect this shop will also open in a similar timeline as the Paradise location,” DuBois said.

Rental Guys was founded in 1959 under the name of Guy Rents by Guy Chadburn who opened the first store on Nord Avenue in Chico. In 1973, DuBose’s father bought the business and in 1993 DuBose took it over. In 2011, he changed the name to Rental Guys and started growing the business and adding other locations to its “flagship” location in Chico.
