The brawl between the pair brought officers to the 2200 block of Railroad Avenue about 6:35 a.m., according to a statement Thursday from Pittsburg police. The officers found a 65-year-old man unresponsive, with significant injuries to his face.

He died at the scene despite life-saving efforts by police and paramedics. Authorities did not identify him.

The homicide is the second one investigated by Pittsburg police this year.

Police say investigators found video of the incident taken by local business surveillance cameras and talked to witnesses. They quickly identified 28-year-old Billy Ray Darby Jr. as the suspect and arrested him, police said.

The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office has not filed the formal charges against Darby yet.

Police said they were still investigating what caused the fight.
