Transit agencies must
consolidate for funding

Re: “Bay Area transit funding in voters’ hands?” (Page A1, Aug. 24).

If the Bay Area transit agencies want more public funding, tell them to sweeten their request by agreeing to start consolidating with each other. The waste of having 27 separate transit agencies is mind blogging, not to mention the complexities of trying to get anywhere.

One transit agency would be great, but we might be able to understand nine agencies for the nine counties.

Josey is best choice
for Dublin mayor

Please vote for Jean Josey for Dublin Mayor in November. She is the most knowledgeable, experienced and capable candidate on the ballot. Her ability to get consensus from people with different viewpoints is uncanny. The respect she has within City Hall and public safety departments is a result of her preparation, intelligence and hard work.

In her six years on Council, she has a great track record for supporting initiatives for the safety of our citizens and has spearheaded the development of parks, protection of open space, and economic development. She understands the ins and outs of water reliability, and the importance of alternative modes of transportation.

Another great thing about Jean is her accessibility and willingness to engage and respond to constituents. She is a great communicator and wants to know your ideas and concerns for Dublin and to share her plan for the future.

Bay Area leaders
have lost compassion

I was appalled and saddened upon reading the Aug. 17 front-page article about the homeless.

After the U.S. Supreme Court granted cities broad new authority to clear homeless camps last month, Gov. Gavin Newsom had a clear message for local officials: no more excuses. Shutting down encampments is all well and good, but the homeless have to go somewhere. And San Francisco Mayor London Breed wants officials to offer homeless people in camps bus tickets out of town before offering them shelter (out of sight, out of mind).

When did she and Gov. Newsom lose their compassion?
