PARADISE — Veterans on the Paradise ridge will mark the 23rd anniversary of 9/11 via a commemorative service day Wednesday with Habitat for Humanity of Butte County.
The event, starting 8 a.m. at 832 Central Park Drive in Paradise, is called 9/11 RED Day of Service and Remembrance — RED standing for “remembering everyone deployed.” Habitat Volunteer Coordinator Cory Beynon said the organization held the first RED Day last year, and its “main purpose” is recognizing veterans and servicemembers deployed anywhere, particularly following 9/11.
Habitat will hold a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. and a ceremony at 11:30. Seven veterans will join other volunteers to install siding on the house that, when completed, will go to a low-income family.
Butte County’s Habitat affiliate has provided a path to home ownership for over 50 families since 1993, including 20 since the Camp Fire. 9/11 RED Day is part of the overarching September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
