Baseball lover Harold Dugger’s 40 years in education earn hall honor | OUHSD Hall of Fame

OROVILLE — For esteemed educator and Oroville Union High School District Hall of Fame 2024 inductee Harold Dugger, attending Oroville High School was a family tradition.

From 1952 through 1962 approximately 20 members of the inductee’s family — including Dugger who graduated in 1959 — graduated from OHS where they were active in sports and student government.

During his high school career, Dugger was a member of Block O in football, basketball, baseball, boxing and cross country. He lettered three years in basketball and baseball and was All Sierra Foothill League in baseball his senior year. He served as president of his class as a freshman and as a sophomore.

Following graduation, the life-long baseball lover attended Yuba College where he played baseball for two years and earned his associate’s degree. He went on to Sacramento State College lettering in baseball for two years and earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. In 1990, he returned to Sac State to earn his master of business administration degree.

Dugger’s 40 year career in education began as a teacher and coach at Encina School in Sacramento. After two years at Encina, he was hired by the Placer Union High School District where he served at several different schools.

In the Placer distrcit Dugger taught business and physical education at Del Oro High School. He coached varsity baseball for 14 years and his teams never finished lower than second place and won four championships in two different leagues.

In 1982, he became vice principal at Del Oro High School where he stayed until 1987 when he was promoted to principal of Colfax High School, a position he held for four years. In 1991, he was transferred to the larger Placer High School where his filled the position of vice principal. He served there for six years and, in 1997, was appointed intake officer at Chana Maidu High School in Auburn where he remained until retirement.

Through his long career Dugger was the honored recipient of the Auburn Rotary International Teacher of the Year and a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from United States Congressman Wally Herger. He was also celebrated for his athletic accomplishments with an induction into the Northern California Sports Association Hall of Fame and induction into the Del Oro Baseball Legends Class of 2015.

Dugger also served as a deacon in his church for 20 years and was a member of the Loomis Lions Club.

Baseball continues to be a Dugger family passion. Dugger’s son, Keith Dugger, is the head trainer and medical adviser for the Colorado Rockies and his grandson, Cashel Dugger, was the starting catcher for the UCLA Bruins this past year.
