San Jose high schools well-represented in annual ArtNow show

ALMADEN/CAMBRIAN/WILLOW GLEN/ROSE GARDEN>>Numerous San Jose high school students had artwork selected for ArtNow, the annual juried exhibit at New Museum Los Gatos. The works were chosen from over 800 submissions from high school students across Santa Clara County. The exhibit will be on display March 22-June 30.

Students were asked to create works around the theme “In Transition,” highlighting the journey from childhood into adulthood that teenagers take. Student artists can win scholarships and awards.

The San Jose students whose artwork was chosen for the show include Willow Glen High School senior Victoria Winch; Lincoln High School seniors Gillian Birdsong and Irene Kim; Julia Tseng, a freshman at BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Upper School; Bellarmine College Preparatory senior Jeffrey Mu; Leland High School juniors Emma Choi, Selina Ge and Anushka Shukla and seniors Esha Shah and Jennie Yang; Pioneer High School seniors Yan Hernandez and Sharon Kim; and Leigh High School juniors Agnes-Hana Boudrant and Gina Gong and seniors Jiwoo Kim and Matthew Matoush.

ROSE GARDEN>>Registration is open for Playful People Productions’ 2024 summer camps and family and community activities at the Historic Hoover Theatre, 1635 Park Ave. Two sessions of JR Theater Camp for ages 4-8 are set for July 15-19 and July 29-Aug. 2.

A production of “Disney’s The Aristocats KIDS” for performers ages 6-10 meets July 8-19 with a July 20 performance, and “Dear Edwina JR” will rehearse July 8-26 with an Aug. 3 performance. Other productions of this show for 10- 15-year-olds and teens ages 13-17 are planned, as well as a version for adult and child performers alike. Youth ages 10-15 who want to work behind the scenes on these shows can sign up for crew camp.
