Landslide blocks hundreds of residents from main roads in Santa Cruz County

A landslide in the Santa Cruz Mountains has blocked hundreds of residents’ access to main roads and freeways on the northern border of Santa Cruz County.

Residents first noticed the slow-moving landslide in late February, located just south of Lexington Reservoir on Mountain Charlie Road. The road, which has now fractured and is no longer accessible by car, is owned and managed by Santa Cruz County.

While residents can still hike through the landslide to cross to their homes, changing weather conditions and incoming storms could change that over the next few weeks.

Santa Cruz County officials have scheduled a series of public meetings with local residents in the month of March to discuss the path to repairs for the road.
