SAN LEANDRO — A San Francisco man has been arrested and charged with two felonies for allegedly shooting a man he met on a dating application after they had consensual sex in the victim’s car, court records show.
The 20-year-old San Francisco man was arrested at the Wiley Manuel Courthouse in Oakland on Dec. 19, and charged with attempted carjacking and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. He is next due in court on Jan. 17, and remains in jail with bail set at $155,000, court records show.
The investigation started after the alleged victim checked himself into a San Leandro hospital with gunshot wounds to hit upper leg and buttocks. He later told police that he and the suspect met on Grindr, a dating app that describes itself as “the world’s largest social networking app for gay, bi, trans, and queer people.”
The alleged victim told police that within a minute of the two meeting and having a consensual sexual encounter, the suspect brandished a gun and attempted to carjack him, leading to a violent struggle between the two. The victim was shot while attempting to wrestle the gun from the suspect, police said.
The alleged victim didn’t know the suspect’s name, but police reportedly they identified him with his Grindr profile picture and cellphone. He was arrested after showing up to court for a hearing in an unrelated gun possession case, authorities said.
