San Lorenzo: Two children injured in I-880 shooting

Two children were injured by a shooting on Interstate 880 near Hesperian Blvd Saturday night, according to California Highway Patrol.

Hayward area CHP responded to the shooting at about 7:05 p.m.

When they arrived, they found that the victim’s vehicle had pulled over. According to Officer Andrew Barclay, two juveniles in the back seat had been struck by gunfire and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital.

All lanes of Northbound I-880 were closed for half an hour. Detectives remained on the scene to investigate.

There have been numerous deadly and non-fatal shootings on freeways in the East Bay over the years.
