WISH YOU WERE HERE

SPAIN: A trip to Spain in late September took a group of South Bay friends — Mario and Emma Ramirez, Elida Gonzales and Lupe Aguilar from San Jose, Alice Lopez from Gilroy and Sophia Martinez from Morgan Hill — from Madrid to Barcelona. “The food was awesome!” Emma says. “Enjoyed all the cities we toured. So much history — and buildings that were built so long ago still standing!” They visited the bullfighting arena (pictured) in Madrid, one of the largest in the world, and Montserrat, a Benedictine retreat and mountain range near Barcelona. “Montserrat is a must-see,” Emma says.

TRAVEL TIPS: “While in Spain, a must is attending a flamenco dance. They dance with so much emotion, and the dance tells a story. A lunch tip we learned was to ask for the 3-course meal, which includes a salad, paella, dessert and either wine or soda for under 16 euros.”
