PHOTOS: The Bay Area Honors Martin Luther King Jr. on his day

Celebration Train: Attendees were given complimentary tickets for a trip up the Peninsula from San Jose to San Francisco to celebrate the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy of non-violent activism in the Civil Rights Movement.   The annual train ride pays tribute to the 1965 Selma to Montgomery March.  Passengers were treated to different activities and giveaways for children.

35th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade: In El Cerrito, Bay Area residents take part in the 35th anniversary celebration in honor of Dr. King with a parade and rally.  Parade participants marched from El Cerrito City Hall to the El Cerrito High School Performing Arts Center where a rally was held to celebrate the legacy of Dr. King.

Three Kings Mural: On Friday, Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School in Oakland had an unveiling ceremony of a mural honoring the late civil rights leader titled “Three Kings” created by Oakland artist and muralist, Senay Alkebu-lan, also known by the acronym RIFA1 (Revolutionary Educator For Africa Unity), a member of AeroSoul Art, an arts collective dedicated to African history and culture.  The mural depicts the three faces of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as a family man, as a husband, and as the social, political and spiritual leader for which he is celebrated.
