SAN JOSE – San Jose Barracuda executive Frank Torres, who oversaw all aspects of the organization’s business operations, died suddenly Monday after a brief illness, the team announced.
Torres, who previously worked with AHL franchises San Antonio and Coachella Valley before he joined the Barracuda in 2022, was, per a team statement, an integral part of the opening of Tech CU Arena. Along with his duties involving ticket sales, corporate partnerships, and marketing, the team said Torres was also playing a vital role in ensuring the success of next month’s 2024 AHL All-Star Classic in San Jose.
“His passion, dedication, and positive attitude touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him,” the statement read.
Before coming to San Jose, Torres, who was born in 1985, played a key role in the launch of the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Seattle Kraken’s AHL affiliate, and the opening of Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert.
Torres worked for the San Antonio Rampage for 13 years and was part of a leadership team that captured multiple AHL sales and marketing awards. That included the 2019 “unique ticket sales promotion or theme night” with Los Chimuelos de San Antonio, a promotion honoring and recognizing Mexican heritage and culture.

According to the Barracuda, Torres was the force behind the creation of the team’s Tigres del Mar celebration earlier this season.

“The entire American Hockey League is stunned and heartbroken over the passing of Frank Torres,” AHL President and CEO Scott Howson said.
“Frank’s passion and tireless dedication made our league better everywhere he worked. In San Antonio, he was an essential member of Spurs Sports & Entertainment’s AHL sales operations for 13 years. In Coachella Valley, he helped the Firebirds gain a foothold in the community during the lead-up to the inaugural season. In San Jose, Frank was entrusted with the task of leading the Barracuda front office into a new era as the organization opened Tech CU Arena.
“We extend our deepest console condolences to Frank’s family, friends and colleagues.”
