HAMILTON CITY — A man and a highway patrol officer went to separate hospitals after a shot was fired Thursday near the railroad tracks and Canal Road in Hamilton City.

The initial call was that a male pedestrian was throwing rocks at or near cars near the railroad tracks at Canal Road.

The officer involved in the shooting was not shot, said CHP Officer  Rodney Pozzi.

The CHP is still investigating the scene and more investigators were arriving at the scene around 2 p.m.

Pozzi did not clarify whether the officer who was involved fired the shot or the man at the railroad tracks fired it, but he said both the officer and the man involved were injured and taken to different hospitals.

Hamilton High was placed on a soft lockdown after the shooting, which had been lifted by 2 p.m.

The CHP’s Northern Division is handling the investigation.
