Sharks update: Revolving door at center continues; new equipment debuts

Estimated read time 2 min read

SAN JOSE – The San Jose Sharks revolving door at the center position continued Thursday as both Logan Couture and Nico Sturm were full participants at practice while Mikael Granlund remained out with an injury that could keep him out of the lineup for some time.

Couture, out with a lower-body ailment for around four months now, has been skating regularly with the Sharks and was with the team during its recently completed five-game road trip. Sturm, though, remained in San Jose as he continued to gain strength in his hand/wrist area that was injured in a Dec. 12 game against the Winnipeg Jets.

Both Couture and Sturm took part in modified 4-on-4 drills.

It was not immediately known if Couture or Sturm would be available to play Saturday when the Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks.

Granlund suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury in the third period of Tuesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Granlund was hit by Chicago forward MacKenzie Entwistle just after he released the puck in the corner to the left of the Sharks net.

Granlund left the ice clutching his shoulder.

After the game, Sharks coach David Quinn said Granlund might be out of the lineup for “a little bit.” As of Thursday morning, Granlund remained on the Sharks’ active roster.
