Officers were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of Gordon Street around 2:40 p.m. for a report of a family disturbance, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

The teen said his mother had pointed a knife at his neck and threatened him with it during an argument, police said.

After ensuring the safety of the 13-year-old, officers turned their attention to his mother, according to police. She refused to leave the apartment, which led officers to summon crisis negotiators to the scene, but they also could not convince her to surrender.

Around 4:45 p.m., roughly two hours after receiving the call, officers entered the apartment and arrested the woman without incident, police said. She was booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.

The teen, meanwhile, was turned over to other adult relatives, according to police.
