A steady stream of rainfall hit the Bay Area overnight heading into Monday, leaving residents with what could be a chaotic morning commute as impacts lingered.

Most of the Bay Area received a decent dousing of rain between 5 a.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday. According to the 24-hour totals from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, .92 inches of rain hit San Francisco, .82 at San Francisco International Airport, .91 in Oakland, .72 in San Jose and .4 in Concord.

Good morning. It was certainly a wet and windy night out there! Rain will diminish through today but residual impacts (elevated streams, shallow landslides, downed trees) remain possible today. Please allow extra commute time and travel safely! #cawx pic.twitter.com/XMPb6iwuNC

Strong, steady rainfall in store for Bay Area this weekend

The combination of rain and strong winds added another element as a couple of reports of downed trees around the region surfaced Monday morning. Highway 9 was closed in both directions between Santa Cruz and Felton at Keystone Way after a tree collapsed over the roadway around 5:30 a.m. There was no immediate word on when the road would reopen.

In San Mateo, 4th Avenue was closed as of 5:20 a.m. between Dartmouth and South El Camino Real after a massive tree fell, crushing parked cars on the way.

Road Closure: Downed tree blocking 4th Av from Dartmouth to S. El Camino Real. Use an alternate route until approx. 1p for tree removal. Drive cautiously in the rain and be aware of your surroundings to prevent hazards and/or injury. We’ll advise when the road has been reopened. pic.twitter.com/XKwOxviayh
