Man fatally shot in East Oakland

OAKLAND — A 28-year-old Brentwood man was fatally shot in East Oakland Sunday morning  authorities said.

His name has not yet been released pending the notification of his family.

The shooting happened about 8:36 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of East 24th Street, a primarily residential area.

The man was driven to a hospital by another person before police got to the scene.  The man died a short time later at the hospital.

Oakland man sent to prison for separate 2016 homicides

Police have not yet said why they believe the man was in Oakland and why he was shot.  No arrests have been made.

The killing is the seventh homicide investigated by Oakland police this year.  Last year at this time police had investigated six homicides in the city.
