Man fatally shot in East Oakland

OAKLAND — A 34-year-old man was fatally shot in East Oakland Tuesday morning, authorities said.

His name has not yet been released pending notification of his family. Police have not yet said where the man lived.

The shooting  happened about 3:55 a.m. Tuesday outside in the 2200 block of East 20th Street, a primarily residential area.

Officers responding to a gunshot detection system alert found the man with at least one gunshot wound.   He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police homicide investigators are trying to determine a motive for the killing.  No arrests have been made.

The killing is the ninth homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the third since Sunday morning.  Last year at this time police had investigated six homicides in the city.
