Teenager suspected of shooting two at Pittsburg BART station is arrested

PITTSBURG — BART police arrested a teenager Tuesday morning who they said fired the bullets that injured two people at the Pittsburg Center BART station last week.

According to BART, video from the agency’s network of cameras helped police identify the teen. The arrest happened around 10:30 a.m. at an unspecified location in Walnut Creek, according to a statement from BART police.

The 17-year-old surrendered without incident. Police said they believe there are no other suspects.

The shooting happened about 3:50 p.m. on the platform of the Pittsburg Center station. An unspecified person took a male victim to a hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition after the shooting. Police have not provided an update to his condition.

A second male arrived at a hospital a few hours later, police said. That victim was in reported to be in stable condition.

Police have not said what they believe the the motive to be, but they said the shooting was not believed to be random.

Police took the suspect to Juvenile Hall, where he was booked.
