FORBESTOWN — A Forbestown man was arrested after deputies found his grandmother dead Monday.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a phone call from Kenneth Lewis, 37, of Forbestown at 6 a.m., according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Lewis reported his grandmother had died inside a residence in the 19000 block of New York Flat Road.

Cal Fire-Butte County personnel contacted Lewis, and BCSO says he was armed with a knife at that time. Firefighters asked for assistance from the Sheriff’s Office, and when deputies arrived Lewis didn’t have a knife.

Lewis was then detained and arrested for an alleged probation violation.

Deputies then found a crime scene Violet Macgregor, 80, of Forbestown, dead, according to the release. Detectives were able to acquire a search warrant to enter the residence.

The Department of Justice Bureau Forensic Services partnered with deputies and combed through the crime scene searching for evidence.

BCSO detectives allegedly found evidence which led them to believe Lewis had physically assaulted and murdered Macgregor, according to the release.

Detectives are seeking homicide charges against Lewis. Anyone with information about this case should call the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Felony Investigations Unit at 530-538-7671.
