Bay Area News Group boys athlete of the week: Asher Meighen, Half Moon Bay basketball

Half Moon Bay basketball player Asher Meighen is the Bay Area News Group’s boys athlete of the week for Jan. 15-20.

In online voting that ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Meighen had 40.74% of the votes to finish ahead of Branham basketball player Wyatt Sparling, who took second at 33.53%.

Congratulations to all the candidates for this week’s recognition.

Meighen finished with 25 points, 16 after halftime, as Half Moon Bay defeated Carlmont 58-51 in a showdown between Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division contenders. The 6-foot-2 junior also had five rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists and was 7 for 7 from the foul line.
