Man suspected of stabbing runs e-scooter into officer | Midday Report

The Chico Police Department arrested a man Tuesday who is suspected of stabbing and attempting to rob two men of their bicycles Sept. 1, and later evading police officers using an electric scooter.

Police said they arrested William Earl Castor as the suspect in the stabbing which left two men injured around 7:31 p.m. Sunday near East First and Wall streets.

On Tuesday, police contacted Castor near the 1600 block of Laurel Street, and said Castor attempted to evade arrest by accelerating his electric scooter toward a “hardily built detective” who took him to the ground after they collided.

According to the release, Castor was suspected of possessing eight edged weapons at the time of his arrest, and is also subject to a felony parole violation warrant.

The detective suffered minor contusions and abrasions from the impact, and Castor received medical treatment at a hospital before being booked into jail, the release said.

Two arrests in Willows

Two men were arrested Tuesday morning after a report of a person being intoxicated at the Tractor Supply on North Humboldt Avenue in Willows, according to a Glenn County Sheriff’s Office press release.

A deputy was dispatched to the store based on the report around 11 a.m., and found two men in a vehicle suspected of having false license plates, the release said. A search of the vehicle found suspected drug paraphernalia, a non-compliant AR-15 rifle, several magazines and a large amount of ammunition collected for evidence.

The two men, Curtis Reed, who turned 31 that day, of Solano County, and Jefferey McKinney, 47, of Solano County, were arrested on suspicion of possessing magazines, ammunition and undetectable firearms.

Targeted assault

Chico police arrested a man who allegedly attempted to run over another man and yelled racial slurs in a conflict over an ex-girlfriend, according to a press release Sunday.

Officers responded to the call around 6:30 a.m. near West First Avenue and arrested the man, Sonny Thompson, 40, of Chico, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and willful threat based on race.

Ridge business

A free, in person startup workshop series will begin 10 a.m. Sept. 10 at the Paradise Ridge Chamber of Commerce located 6161 Clark Road, hosted by Ridgestart and Chicostart.

Mall shops

The Chico Marketplace announced three new recent openings at its location at 1950 E. 20th Street.

Shoe Palace opened in August, Five Below will open 10 a.m. Sept. 6 and Minims will open 11 a.m. Sept. 7.

Late arrest

Chico police traffic investigators arrested Jennifer Jackson, of Chico, Saturday afternoon at her home without incident.

Jackson is accused of running a red light while driving and striking pedestrian Frank Moodie, 69, on July 24, who was hit while crossing the street and died about one month later in a hospital, according to a press release from Chico Police Department.

Jackson was in the Butte County Jail with bail set at $60,000 on Wednesday.
